Bryn is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Director of the Trent Simulation & Clinical Skills Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK. In 2009 he was appointed as an Honorary Professor at the School of Psychology, University of Nottingham. He is Immediate Past President of the Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH), and was President from 2009-14. ASPiH is the leading UK learned body focused on the use of simulation and related innovative learning technologies within healthcare professional education and training, workforce development, and quality and patient safety improvement. Bryn currently has national roles with Health Education England and the Royal College of Anaesthetists related to technology enhanced learning and broader educational themes of patient safety, Human Factors, and team training.
His research interests relate to the integration of Human Factors with healthcare education and practice, exploration of how best to enhance the development of expertise in individual professionals and teams, and the promotion of organisational learning aligned with the pursuit of high reliability in healthcare amidst complexity and constrained resources.
